Dean Valley, Edinburgh

Town Garden

Enclosed by handsome stone walls and with a sunny aspect, this garden had all the scope to be a fantastic place. The previous owners had planted a lot of trees in the garden that would have outgrown and shaded the whole area. These were removed and a design was prepared to meet the clients’ requirements.

A pergola sits at one end of the garden above a terrace that catches the morning sun. The garden is composed of three small lawns all framed by Indian grey sandstone setts. Box balls, peonies and white hydrangeas form the backbone of the planting and a second terrace is situated at the other end of the garden where the owners can enjoy the last of the evening sun.

The garden shed, trellis, pergola and garden gate are all painted in Farrow & Ball Mole’s Breath to give the space a sense of unity and to blend in with the grey sandstone.
